Similarity between Flavonoid Biosynthetic Enzymes and Flavonoid Protein Targets Captured by Three-Dimensional Computing Approach.

Natural products are made by nature through interaction with biosynthetic enzymes. They also exert their effect as drugs by interaction with proteins. To address the question "Do biosynthetic enzymes and therapeutic targets share common mechanisms for the molecular recognition of natural products?", we compared the active site of five flavonoid biosynthetic enzymes to 8077 ligandable binding si...

Assessment of "drug-likeness" of a small library of natural products using chemoinformatics

Even though natural products has an excellent record as a source for new drugs, the advent of ultrahigh-throughput screening and large-scale combinatorial synthetic methods, has caused a decline in the use of natural products research in the pharmaceutical industry. This is due to the efficiency in generating and screening a high number of synthetic combinatorial compounds; whereas traditional ...

The Gravity Model and Iran's Trade Flows

This article has considered the volume and direction of Iran’s trade using the gravity model. The major issue in this analysis is to explore why Iran over or under-traded with the 76 countries relative to the predicted trade flows of the model. The study attempts to explore the reasons from the respect of both the model itself and Iran’s trade structure. This is done by analysing the performanc...

A common protein fold topology shared by flavonoid biosynthetic enzymes and therapeutic targets.

The relationship between a natural product's biosynthetic enzyme and its therapeutic target is unknown. The concept of protein fold topologies, as a determining factor in recognition, has been developed through molecular modeling techniques. We have shown that biosynthetic enzymes and the therapeutic targets of three classes of natural products that inhibit protein kinases share a common protei...
